Becoming a patient at our Hamilton Mountain clinic
Welcome to Hamilton Care Dental Centre. We are an established family dental practice on Upper Ottawa Street, on Hamilton Mountain, caring for patients of every age since 2012. Three dentists, four registered dental hygienists, and an on-staff licensed denturist mean almost everything you need is delivered under one roof — including dental implants, Invisalign and SureSmile® Aligners, root canals, wisdom teeth removal, dentures, teeth whitening, and emergency dentistry.
If you are looking for a family dentist on Hamilton Mountain, a CDCP-accepting dentist in Hamilton, or a clinic that handles same-day dental emergencies, you are in the right place. Read on for what to expect, what to bring, and how to book.
What to expect at your first visit
Your first visit at Hamilton Care Dental Centre is unhurried and thorough. We block 60 to 90 minutes so there is time for a real conversation and a complete clinical assessment.
- Warm welcome and paperwork. Our reception team checks you in, reviews your insurance or CDCP coverage, and confirms your contact and medical information. New-patient forms can be completed in-office or sent ahead of time.
- Comprehensive dental exam. Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints (TMJ), and soft tissues. We perform an oral cancer screening at every new-patient visit at no extra charge.
- Digital X-rays (as needed). Low-radiation digital X-rays catch decay between teeth, bone loss, and hidden issues. We only take X-rays when they will give us useful information.
- Periodontal (gum) charting. Your hygienist measures the gum tissue around each tooth to detect early gum disease. Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy mouth.
- Professional cleaning. If time permits, your hygienist removes tartar and stains and polishes your teeth. Sometimes a separate cleaning visit is booked for patients with significant build-up.
- Findings, plan, and a written estimate. We explain what we found, show you your X-rays, and offer treatment options — starting with the most conservative one. Before any major treatment we provide a clear written estimate showing what insurance is expected to pay and what your portion would be.
What to bring to your first appointment
- Photo ID (Ontario driver licence, Ontario photo card, or passport).
- Dental insurance card or details (carrier, group/policy number, certificate number, policy-holder's birth date). A photo of your card is perfect.
- CDCP member ID, if you are enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
- A list of your current medications, vitamins, and supplements with doses.
- Recent dental X-rays from a previous dentist (optional, but saves time and avoids new imaging if recent).
- Any specific concerns or questions you would like us to address — even small ones. Your time is ours.
Insurance, CDCP, and payment for new patients
We bill most Canadian dental insurance plans directly so you only pay your portion at the visit. We also accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and submit claims to Sun Life on your behalf. For costs that are not fully covered, Beautifi financing offers flexible monthly plans, including 0 percent options on qualifying treatments. See our full Dental Insurance & CDCP overview for the list of carriers we bill, what plans typically cover, and how to maximize your benefits.
Services available to new patients
Most things you might need can be done in-office, which means fewer referrals out and less time off work:

- Restorative dentistry — tooth-coloured composite fillings, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays.
- Dental implants — single implants, multiple implants, implant-supported bridges, full-arch implants, bone grafting.
- Cosmetic dentistry — porcelain veneers, composite bonding, smile makeovers, crown lengthening, white spot treatment.
- SureSmile® Aligners and Invisalign-compatible orthodontics for adults and teens.
- Root canal therapy for severe tooth pain and pulp infection.
- Oral surgery — wisdom teeth removal, complex extractions, pre-prosthetic surgery.

Children and family dentistry
We see toddlers, children, teens, parents, and grandparents — often all in the same week. The Canadian Dental Association recommends a child's first dental visit within six months of the first tooth, or by age one. Early visits are short and friendly. We never rush children. For nervous kids, nitrous oxide sedation is available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hamilton Care Dental accepting new patients?
Yes. Hamilton Care Dental Centre welcomes new patients of every age, every day. Most new-patient appointments are available within a few business days, and same-day slots are usually open for dental emergencies.
What happens at my first dental visit?
Your first visit is a thorough new-patient exam: medical and dental history review, a full clinical exam, digital X-rays as needed, a periodontal (gum) check, oral cancer screening, and a professional cleaning if time allows. We then discuss findings, answer questions, and only recommend treatment after listening to your goals.
How long does the first appointment take?
Plan on 60 to 90 minutes for your first visit so we have time for a thorough exam, X-rays, cleaning, and a clear conversation about any recommended treatment. Follow-up recall visits are usually 45 to 60 minutes.
What should I bring to my first dental visit?
Photo ID, your dental insurance card or CDCP member ID, a list of current medications, and any recent X-rays from a previous dentist if you have them. Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete the new-patient form.
How much is a new-patient visit in Hamilton?
A new-patient exam, cleaning, and X-rays at our Hamilton office typically falls in the $200 to $350 range. CDCP and most private insurance plans cover preventive visits in full. We provide a written estimate before any major treatment.
Do you do direct insurance billing for new patients?
Yes. We submit claims directly to your provider, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, Desjardins, Equitable, Industrial Alliance, SSQ/Beneva, Empire Life, and Blue Cross. You only pay your portion at the visit.
Can I switch dentists if I'm already seeing someone?
Of course. Just give us a call to book a new-patient visit. We can request your records and recent X-rays from your previous dentist to save you time and avoid unnecessary new imaging.
Are you taking new pediatric patients?
Yes. We see children from their very first dental visit onward (the Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit within six months of the first tooth, or by age one). First visits for kids are short, friendly, and unhurried.
Do you accept CDCP for new patients?
Yes. We're an accepting provider for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Bring your CDCP member ID issued by Sun Life and we'll handle the claim.
I have dental anxiety. Can you help?
Yes. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation for anxious adults and children. Tell us when you book and we'll plan extra time and walk you through every step.
